The PSA Test
The PSA Test
By Reggie Pittman
references from Harvard.edu and menshealth.com
The prostate specific antigen (PSA) test does not mean you have cancer if your score is elevated. A high score (anything above 4) could mean you were sexually active before the test, you were stressed before the test, you have inflammation in your prostate, your prostate is infected, or other issues.
There are many issues that need to be considered before you decide on surgery, other medical procedures, or alternative medicine.
One factor is, the normal range is the same for every man. This should not be the case! (Stress) Being Happy with your life compared to not liking your job and being in an unfulfilling marriage/relationship. (Weather) Living in northern Alaska and living by the equator in Kenya will have profound effects on your prostate. (Love Life) Being a celibate man verses a loving, sexually active man has a definite effect. (Nutrition) Living on a farm and eating your own healthy crop verses eating only fast food, factors into your prostate health.
At the center of the dispute is a simple glycoprotein (sugar-containing protein) produced by the epithelial cells of every prostate gland, benign or malignant. The prostate secretes a liquid when a man ejaculates and its job is to protect the semen, allowing sperm to reach the egg. Although PSA (the protein) is intended to protect the semen, some of it spills over into the blood, where it can be measured with a simple, inexpensive blood test. But even with a simple test, interpreting its results is not simple. And while the test is inexpensive (about $50), it can lead to high costs in dollars and health.
There are organizations that score the PSA test differently. There is the Gleason scoring system and the World Health Organization (WHO) scoring system. There’s also the Free PSA score. You can have 3 different scores analyzing the same blood. We will discuss the different scores in another article!
Also, an elevated level of glucose in your blood means your testosterone level is high. Young men have elevated testosterone levels but usually do not have prostate cancer. Being over 50 years old and having an elevated level of testosterone is not necessarily a bad thing (ask your smiling wife). Two key factors are exercising your prostate and using your prostate. Some suggestions are listed above.
Few could have anticipated the PSA controversy in 1966, when the protein was first identified with semen. It rapidly became a favored tool for law enforcement agencies, which used it as a marker for the presence of semen in cases of suspected sexual assault. The next important landmark in the history of PSA came in 1979, when doctors identified PSA in blood. Blood PSA levels were first used to screen for prostate cancer in 1987, and FDA approval for PSA as a screening test followed seven years later.
Most American doctors use 4.0 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml) as a cutoff, accepting results below that as normal and higher values as abnormal. In fact, though, there is no true normal. For example, one important study reported that 17% of men with PSAs between 1.0 and 2.0 ng/ml had prostate cancer, and 24% of men with readings between 2.1 and 3.0 ng/ml had the disease. At the other end of the spectrum, about one of every four men (25%) with PSAs above 4.0 ng/ml have cancer. That's because benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), infections, inflammation, and other conditions can boost PSA levels.
Remember, a high PSA score does not mean you have cancer. It means to understand your body, exercise your prostate, eat and drink healthy items, reduce stress, get a digital rectal exam (DRE), and get a PSA test regularly (every 6 to 12 months).

Lupus, African American Women, and Hair
This article will help you understand and eliminate lupus. You can control your body and symptoms your body exhibits.
Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that occurs when your body's immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems — including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.
The 4 different types of lupus are systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), cutaneous lupus erythematosus, drug induced lupus erythematosus, and neonatal lupus.
Hair care treatments such as chemicals, relaxers, hair straighteners, heat (straightening irons...), tight rollers, harsh brushing... damage your hair and can lead to auto immune deficiencies.
Your hair is part of the largest organ of your body! The integumentary system is an organ system consisting of the skin, hair, nails, and exocrine glands. The skin is only a few millimeters thick yet is by far the largest organ in the body.
Stop putting chemicals in your hair! Putting chemicals in your hair is like putting acid directly on your brain! Your hair protects your head and is a warming agent for your body. Chemicals eliminate that protection!
Let your hair be natural for 90 days! This will reverse the 15 or more years you have damaging your hair and body. After 90 days, make the life style changes necessary to continue being healthy.
Once you respect your hair with natural oils and gentle brushing, your immune system will be strengthened.
Other elements such as happiness, stress reduction, drinking clean water, eating raw vegetables and other healthy foods, and maintaining your proper weight contribute to your overall health.
Start with treating your hair with respect and natural oils and watch your lupus dissipate!

Prostate Health and Sleep
By Reggie Pittman
Sleep is essential to good prostate health. When you sleep properly, your body repair’s itself. The proper amount of sleep is a necessary component to good health also.
Quality sleep for an adult is about 6 to 8 hours per night. Of course, your lifestyle contributes to the amount of sleep you need. If you meditate during the day, live relatively stress free, enjoy your job, love your spouse, family, and friends, are financially secure, and live in a nature friendly environment, then sleep should be better.
If your environment is toxic, then you are more stressed. A toxic environment can include a stressful job, an unhappy marriage, being overweight, watching toxic tv programs, money issues, and drinking lead based water. These are some issues that will affect your prostate. Your body will be trying to survive instead of thriving! Work on living in a healthy environment. That will help your prostate health.
The foods you eat and what time you eat effects your sleep. Eating light meals of vegetables, fruit, and nuts (nutritious meals) allows your body to replenish itself when you sleep. Eating sugar filled desserts, sweets, instant coffee, lots of red meats means your body is working harder to break down these foods. Avoid sweets and eat more vegetables. You will sleep better and your prostate will thank you!
Quality sleep means you are comfortable (when you sleep) and you sleep deeply. It is referred to as rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. This is quality sleep.
Proper prostate health is a 24 hour job. 30% of the day is sleep. Take care of yourself during the day and sleep will replenish your prostate health.
Let’s get healthy together!

A Phenomenal Experience. A View of China Never Seen.
The 2016 Summer Student Study Visits to China sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Education and managed by China–United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) will invite American college student groups to study in China for two weeks. Under the customized program, the groups will visit cities in China: Beijing, Shanghai and a third city if time allows, and take classes in local university campuses. During their stay, they will receive lectures on Chinese history, language, culture and economic development etc., presented by credentialed Chinese scholars. The student groups will have additional opportunities to participate in cultural activities, and tour historical sites such as the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. (See attached sample schedule).
Student study groups should comprise of 20 – 22 college students and 2 adult chaperones. Our curriculum is developed based on the group’s education level.
Under the current sponsorship scheme, all domestic group expenses, including tuition, accommodation, in- country transportation, meals and sightseeing tickets, will be covered by the Ministry of Education (MoE) of China. CUSEF will manage the program by providing organizational support and logistical support. CUSEF will also send local staff to assist the group throughout the trip.
Below is a breakdown of the roles and responsibilities of the applicant’s coordinating organizations and adult chaperones accompanying each student group. Please read the notes carefully before submitting the application.
Background Information on the Student Study Visit
Based in Hong Kong, the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) was established in 2008 as a non- government, non-profit entity and is supported entirely by private donations. The Foundation’s aim is to promote
mutual understanding and trust through open and constructive communications and exchanges between the two peoples of the People’s Republic of China and the United States of America.
The Foundation believes understanding and trust are the cornerstones of success for the world's most important bilateral relationship. Our programs serve as a critical bridge for the two countries by facilitating open and constructive exchange among policy-makers, business leaders, academics, think-tanks, cultural figures, and educators from China and the United-States.
CUSEF also has a long-term goal of engaging future leaders of the two nations. From the year of 2013 to 2015, CUSEF sponsored and/or organized more than 15 student delegations, ranging from high-school students to postgraduate students, to visit China in order to nurture knowledge and foster a deeper understanding between Chinese and American citizens. So far, more than 200 American students have benefited from the program.
